I have a little different situation I guess. I am getting an error message now that says "the server cannot be reached to validate you password. Make sure your computer is connected to the internet..."
I am most definitely connected to the internet. I have set all the configuration options as listed above and uninstalled and reinstalled Lync a couple times. I ran the connectivity test from www.testexchangeconnectivity.com and got these results.

Test Steps
Attempting to resolve the host name sipdir.online.lync.com in DNS.
The host name resolved successfully.
Additional Details
Testing TCP port 443 on host sipdir.online.lync.com to ensure it's listening and open.
The port was opened successfully.
Testing the SSL certificate to make sure it's valid.
The certificate passed all validation requirements.
