i agree with most of the people on here that microsoft is squandering their secret weapon by ignoring the MAC platform. office 365 is conceptually the best thing since sliced bread. it works extremely well on windows. if they, microsoft, got their act together, office 365 could become the killer app for collaboration. it is priced right and has nearly all the functionality you will need from a business and a personal perspective. the temporary solution on the mac (using parallels) works pretty well. the key for us was to get all the stuff that was on the MAC's up to share point and skydive pro. we do not have to deal with the offline issue that some people do so syncing with the computer is less important. Once the documents were in share point and/or skydrive, opening and editing them is pretty much the same as windows provided you are using safari (chrome does not work). the restrictions we had to put in place are a) do the initial document creation via the browser and then if necessary open the document in the desk top product and b) open the document via the browser and then switch to the desktop product for editing if required. We use parallels when we need to do some sort of "bulk" load to either skydrive or sharepoint (like copying an entire directory). Although we have not completely forbid it, we strongly encourage all users to store their business personal files in skydrive pro and shared company files in share point. with these caveats, we have successfully migrated the gapping holes in the microsoft office 365 suite. i have enterprise customers (E3) and small business (P2) customers. most shops are mixed (mac & windows). Interestingly enough their IOS implementations are not bad unless you try to load office 2011 onto a tablet. if you stay with the web versions of the products it does a great job.
on a side note, microsoft also needs to put together a team to focus on making office 365 a world class product on chrome/chrome books. they have to look at chrome as a browser but also the chrome books that are now becoming more prevalent.
