Based on your descriptions, do you mean you connected the Outlook.com account to Outlook 2011 with the IMAP method?
If so, I'm afraid that it's the expected behavior. As far as I know, the calendars can’t be synced to the Outlook client with the IMAP connection.
But since this forum mainly focuses on the Office 365 Exchange Online related matters, we are not quite familiar with the Outlook.com service. It’s suggested that you contact the Outlook.com support for further confirmation.
