We cannot get OneNote for Mac to activate we when we sign in we get 'We could not find an eligible Office 365 subscription for (user). They have Office 365 ProPlus for Faculty & Office 365 Education E1 for Faculty and according to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office-applications-service-description.aspx Office ProPlus is eligible for OneNote.
