Dropbox wins

For reference, my organisation is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner (Application development). We operate about 80% Windows and 20% Mac. We also use iPhones and iPads for corporate use extensively. We sell hosted Azure app development and our core platform is SQL Server / .Net / IIS. We love Active Directory and ADFS. We run Dynamics CRM 2013 on the Microsoft Cloud and love it, both in browser and the iPad app.

BUT

We have taken the decision to close down our use of One Drive for Business, and with it our use of Sharepoint for all but a front end menu portal to other internal services.

WHY?

1. We cannot get One Drive for Business to reliably work on Windows 8.1 machines. The sync process keeps crashing.

2. It was installed as a replacement for our File Server, and has failed. Our users simply avoid it. (On this forum I've seen that Microsoft don't see it as a replacement for a file server. If not, what is?!)

3. No support for Mac.

4. Now that Office 365 for iPad support Dropbox, we can use Dropbox to access our office docs.

5. Dropbox use Single sign-on to our Active Directory, same as One Drive.

6. Dropbox just works!

7. The way Dropbox handles version recovery and now concurrent use was a big plus.

8. Despite getting One Drive for Business as part of the Microsoft Partner program for free, paying Dropbox was a lower TCO option.

9. We saw the missed 2014 commitment by Microsoft for Mac support as the final straw.

10. With Dropbox working on Office 365 for iPad, it looks like the collaboration will only deepen over time.

We continue to support and sell the Microsoft product stack, but sadly haven't recommended One Drive for Business to any of our customers.
