Microsoft Autoupdate in infinite loop

The latest Office 365 update for Outlook (possibly any Office update for Mac) has caused Microsoft Autoupdate to take over the Mac desktop and prevent focus on any other window.  Even after clicking the download button, the mouse cannot be clicked anywhere else without immediately returning focus to the Update window.  Once installed, the ever-annoying "Check for updates" popup (WHY ask again if you JUST installed the latest update?!) keeps looping, even after saying there are no more updates.  The only way to get rid of it is to select "manual" to make it go away.

This has hit all of our Macs in our office.  Most (maybe all who've had this issue) are running Yosemite and Office 2011, with Outlook 365, downloaded from our corporate Office 365 portal.

I've seen this same issue posted for Yosemite and Office 2008/Mac.

What gives?  And *please* get rid of that redundant request to check for updates right after installing an update.

Thanks.
