OneDrive for Business Mac client - cache errors after installing Office 2016 Mac Preview

When I launch OneDrive for Business (preview), I'm getting a dialog box that says "A problem occurred while accessing the Office Document Cache.  Do you want to repair this problem?"  My choices are no and yes.  If I choose yes, then the Microsoft Upload Center launches, with nothing in its dialog box.

Regardless of whether I click yes or no when asked if I want to repair the problem, OneDrive for Business will consume 100% of CPU time until I quit it.  The first time I encountered this, I let OneDrive for Business spin out for 12 hours solid on my Late 2013 MacBook Pro.

If I create a new user account in OS X and launch OneDrive for Business from that new account, then I do not encounter this problem.  So I've attempted to eradicate all traces of OneDrive for Business from my main account, but clearly I'm missing something.  I've tried the following steps to solve this problem in my primary user account, neither have resolved the problem:

  • Delete the OneDrive for Business app from the Applications folder and reinstall.
  • Delete the OneDrive for Business app from the Applications folder, then delete ~/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.onedrivebusiness-mac, and ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.onedrivebusiness-mac.plist and reboot.
