Do you mind to follow the steps below to have a further troubleshooting?
1. Try to use another browser to check if the issue only occur in the Safari.
2. Could you retry the steps you did in a PC? With the result, we can clarify if the issue relate to the Operating System (OS).
3. Please create a new site and try to open or edit the documents in the new site. If the problem persists, it might be something wrong with the site.
